Located in the Saxon Switzerland National Park area, Bastei is better known for the wonderful Bastei Bridge, which overlooks the National Park and the Elbe river. The bridge is 76,5 meters long and connects the enormous rock formations. This panoramic view also overlooks the surrounding mountains and the Koenigstein Fortress. The Bastei Bridge is so famous that hundreds of tourists visit it every day. The proximity to Dresden (about 1 hour away), makes it an excellent choice for tourists on daytrips out of there.
The ruins of the Felsenburg Castle are right in front of the bridge and also worth a visit. Although the Bastei Bridge has no admission cost, the tour of the castle will cost you a small fee.
The Bastei Hotel also has a beautiful view of its surrounding area. It is the perfect place for you to relax and to enjoy the nature while grabbing something to eat. Enjoy a good cup of hot tea or coffee with a breathtaking view of the Elbe river winding through the land beneath the rocks of the Bastei (drinks and refreshment are paid on the spot and are not included).
This 4-hour stop is perfect to relax and to take a deep breath of fresh air before heading back to civilization. If, however, you feel like you do not want to stay the entirety of your 4-hour stop at Bastei, there are other places nearby that the driver can take you to.
