On March 6th 2017 Protivin Zoo reported 20 new eggs laid by the gavial crocodile AKA Gavialis gangeticus. It is a great success as it is the first time gavial laid eggs in a zoo located in temperate zone. As the zoo announced on their website, some of the eggs are very likely fertilized. With help of luck and great treat of local staff we may welcome new born gavials in near future.
Protivin Zoo of crocodiles is a great tip for trip from Prague or on the way to Cesky Krumlov, Linz, Vienna, Salzburg and many more cities located south from Prague. Children love the zoo and it is a definite must-do for everyone who likes crocodiles.
Rare crocodiles that can be seen in the crocodile zoo in Protivin:
Golem – estuarine crocodile (4,7 meters long)
Monty – philippine crocodile (with gharials most endangered species)
Kuba – american crocodile (favoriet crocodile in the zoo)
Apart from that there are gavials – Gavialis gangeticus, alligators, caimans, toxic snakes, exposition pups and the zoological museum.
